With thousands of colleges to apply to in the US alone, how does my child find the right fit? We help identify student strengths, interests, needs, and abilities to help find that perfect fit.
Applying to colleges can be stressful. An experienced college consultant can walk you through the process, organize documents and deadlines, and help find the best college fit.
Is my student's transcript good enough to get into his or her "dream" schools? How will colleges evaluate courses taken, extracurricular activity, college credit? What additional steps are recommended?
Is your child's mind a mystery? We can provide cognitive skills testing, aptitude testing for college and career, and a variety of other assessments that help put your student on the right path to college and career.
Standardized test scores can be improved - often significantly - by practicing with official tests and reviewing answers and strategies in depth. We can help.
The best college essays are the ones written in the student's authentic "voice." We help your student develop that unique voice that colleges look for -- not canned essays prepared by others.
Our comprehensive, data-driven service includes evaluating the student's academic record, cognitive and aptitude skills testing, establishing reachable goals, ACT/SAT prep, advising the student throughout the application process, and teaching students how to advocate for themselves.
In our initial, complimentary one-hour meeting, I go over the application process with the student and family. After this initial consultation, I recommend services appropriate for your needs. To schedule an appointment, in person or by phone/Skype, please click here.
Some students only need help as needed with specific tasks, such as ACT/SAT prep. I am available on an hourly basis to give families advice about finding the right college, writing applications and essays, standardized and skills testing, and more. Click here for a complete list of services.
A toxicologist by profession, I am also Executive Director of a year-round school I founded in 2010 at the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Through a highly individualized approach whereby each student follows a unique academic path and schedule according to their needs and interests, we serve students for whom traditional school is not a good fit: competitive athletes, highly gifted, chronically ill, and other students on a unique path to college and career. Their shared characteristic? They are all motivated learners.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Human Biology from Stanford, and my master's and doctorate degrees in Public Health from Columbia. I added a Master's of Education in Learning and Technology from Western Governors University in 2014 after founding I-School. I have provided college and career counseling to over 300 students in the last eight years as the Executive Director of I-School, preparing students for a diverse array of careers -- from drone operators to university math professors. Specialties include student athletes, non-traditional paths, and international applications.
Much of my inspiration for college advising comes while observing nature. Osprey, bald eagles, herons, sea lions, salmon, sturgeon are all right outside the door of my floating home. If you want to know more about my experience in and approach to college consulting, please see my philosophy about college consulting (including my goals and personal action plan), my long-term strategic plan, or my CV which includes presentations I have given and other professional development activities. There are thousands of articles on dozens of college application topics, from how to prepare for an interview to increasing your ACT score to finding grants. Each student's situation and needs are unique, and my joy is crafting an individualized path according to each student's needs, abilities, and aspirations. Tell me more about what you're looking for, and I will get back to you soon with some ideas.
